Whaling Wall murals, created by Wyland, are life-size depictions of blue whales, humpback whales, gray whales, manatees, turtles, reef fish and other sea creatures, painted on buildings, ceilings, roofs, and even racing boat hulls.
Wyland, who in 2008 is celebrated 30 years of artistry and conservation, set a goal to finish 100 Whaling Walls before the end of 2008. That goal was achieved with the completion of his 100th wall in Beijing just prior to the opening of the 2008 Summer Olympics. He was joined in this endeavor by child artists from United Nations countries from all over the world.
More than seventy cities in the U.S., Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, South America, Japan, and the islands of the Pacific have been proud to showcase these treasured landmarks. An estimated one billion people view the Whaling Walls each year.
These spectacular and memorable murals promote environmental awareness by showing people the beauty of the undersea world and encouraging conservation, another of Wyland's longtime objectives.
