WYLAND GALLERIES WELCOMES GLASS ARTIST ADRIANO DALLA VALENTINA
The colorful "Love Me Do" is a prime example of Adriano dalla Valentina's artistry in glass -- which is indeed well loved by collectors.
Italian glass master Adriano dalla Valentina has joined the coterie of leading contemporary artists whose works are featured at Wyland Galleries.
Dalla Valentina’s intriguing artistry in glass is available at Wyland Galleries of Key West’s 102 Duval Street location.
Born in the famed Italian glassmaking center of Murano, dalla Valentina was exposed to the island’s tradition of glassblowing at an early age, and began working in a glass factory at just ten years old.
He continued working in various glass factories and learning from Murano “maestros” until he was 24, when he opened his own studio.
Linea Valentina, founded in 1974, was dalla Valentina’s own glassworks, where he espoused the traditional glassmaking techniques of his island home.
He starts by making canes, which are rods of colored glass. He fuses canes together to form murrine, then fuses murrines together to make patterns called millefiori.
Finally, he incorporates small sections of these into clear glass sculptures to create his unique and acclaimed pieces.
Dalla Valentina’s colors and patterns are extremely intricate, even by the high standards of Murano. Well known in Italy as a virtuoso, dalla Valentina continues his exploration of the art of glass.
