SURREALIST MICHAEL CHEVAL'S WORKS NOW AT 623 DUVAL
“Magica Lesson IV,” by Michael Cheval, displays the artist’s classic style and passion for the absurd.
Surrealist Michael Cheval has joined the coterie of fine artists whose work is featured at Wyland Galleries of Key West’s 623 Duval Street location.
Born in southern Russia, Cheval was exposed to art at an early age by his grandfather, a professional artist and sculptor.
Moving into central Europe as a teenager gave him a keen sense of Western culture, while later living in central Asia gave him the same sense of Eastern culture and philosophy. Now living in the U.S., he draws on elements of both to infuse his artistry.
Cheval specializes in Absurdist paintings, drawings and portraits, with each one a unique journey into illusion. Many of his images are not titled, leaving the viewer to interpret the painting in his or her own way.
“Absurdity is a feeling, a sense that cannot be touched,” Cheval has said. “Its presence inside us is as necessary as love, irony, and compassion.”
His work, which has been called both metaphorical and ethereal, is collected around the world and has appeared in many prestigious national and international exhibitions.
Michael Cheval’s intriguing oils on canvas and giclées are available at Wyland Galleries of Key West’s 623 Duval Street location. For more information about this renowned artist and his works, call the gallery at (305) 292-4998.
